BAIE Wines is located in the Bellarine Peninsula and is strongly influenced by the maritime cool climate. The vineyard is bound to the North directly overlooking Port Phillip Bay, and the 20-year-old vines are grown on coastal loam, with a clay loam subsoil. Our wines are made from domain grown fruit in Curlewis, Bellarine Peninsula Geelong at a Latitude – 38.163354 and Longitude 144.542334.

Soil Systems
Our philosophy of viticulture and winemaking is to best represent our geology, climate and the grape growing season of that year respectfully, consistently and honestly. All stages of fruit development, such as pruning and canopy management, are overseen by Simon and Peter to retain the integrity of the vineyard and season and nurture each wine’s personality. We work on the simple principles that wines begin in the soil. Each year we work on assessing and managing requirements of soil, vine health, rainfall and protection from sun and wind to ensure a multifaceted approach to grow the best fruit possible.
Vintages
VINTAGE 2022
Flowering in Spring of the growing season was hampered by wind events resulting in lower than hoped crop yields, followed by an extremely wet summer which meant significant canopy management to ensure sunlight and air circulation to prevent disease management. Whilst the bunches were of great quality they did not swell to expected size so lower yields compounded. The upside is these smaller bunches at times may be called a winemaker's dream; owing to the quality of the flavour, depth, tannin and acid balance in the wines that followed.
VINTAGE 2023
Wet conditions in Sept-December of 2022 saw extra work in the vineyard to ensure disease prevention - of which was achieved with excellence at BAIE. Strong winds and hail events in this time saw flowering impacted and a somewhat reduced fruit set - a challenging start to the growing season. A cool summer with small rain events and then finally warmer days in February and March led to the ripeness we were waiting for with vintage a week later than the norm. Bright and elegant wines with good acidity on the palate have delighted the vignerons in the region.
VINTAGE 2024
A dry winter saw an earlier bud burst with early springs rains which allowed for excellent vine health throughout. Flowering and fruit set were modest, and drier conditions through late spring and summer saw final yields as lower than average. Grape and wine quality were excellent which has meant production saw excellent flavour and acid balanced wines.

Our estate vineyards consist of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Rosé and Shiraz.
